We Treat Your Crop With the Respect It Deserves
Harvesting honey requires specialised equipment, clean facilities, and a major time commitment. Our small, highly efficient Cape Town honey room takes the hassle out of your season.
Your Honey, Guaranteed
We operate on a strict batch-isolation protocol. We guarantee that you get back 100% of your own honey and frames, with absolutely no cross-beekeeper mixing.
Zero Heat Quality Protection
We extract purely using centrifugal force and double-strain at room temperature. We do not use thermal pasteurization, protecting the raw enzymes, delicate local fynbos aromas, and health properties of your honey.
Premium 40# Fabric Straining Included
We automatically double-strain your honey through technical food-grade material with 40 holes per linear cm (40#) to remove micro-cappings, wax crumbs, and bee debris, leaving an exceptionally clean retail product.
Drop-off, Processing & Packing Rules
Please review our room policies to ensure a smooth, secure, and compliant extraction experience.
Drop-off & Storage
Supers must be dropped off at our Vredehoek premises. Beekeepers are required to ensure all supers and containers are fully sealed. If they are not sealed, plastic containment bags will be provided to protect against robbing bees. We request 72 hours’ notice to book an extraction slot, but can store your supers safely if a slot is not immediately open.
Extraction Scope & Limits
Our extraction service includes extracting honey via centrifugal force, straining capping honey, and crushing comb honey. Straining is a mandatory part of our service to ensure high-quality output. Please note: we cannot process honeycomb that has crystallized in the comb at this stage.
Mechanical Packing
Our premises are clean and secure. We pack using simple mechanical, gravity-fed bottling methods without rapid heating to protect honey quality. Clients can supply their own buckets/jars, or purchase gold/black-lidded 500g glass jars from us.
Labelling & Standards Act
If you want us to apply your labels, they must conform strictly to the Agricultural Product Standards Act (Act 119 of 1990). The labelling service is charged at R1.75 per label, and labels must be supplied by the beekeeper. We verify compliance before labelling.
Collection Guidelines
Once processing is complete, your honey product and empty supers will be ready for pickup. We request that beekeepers coordinate a collection slot with our staff and collect their assets at the arranged time to maintain honey room floor space.
Honey Purchasing Option
Do you want to sell your crop? If you do not wish to package or bottle your raw honey for retail, Barben Bees can purchase your bulk extracted honey directly from you at competitive local market rates. Speak to our staff during drop-off.
